Coaching Staff
Alaina Schlaefer, formerly Alaina Lacopo, enters her third year on Derek Burton's staff as SIUE women's soccer assistant coach.
Schlaefer was a starting forward and a four-year letter winner at Southeast Missouri State. She helped SEMO to Ohio Valley Championships in 2006 and 2007. The 2007 team was also the Ohio Valley's regular season champion, after finishing the conference season undefeated. Schlaefer also led the Redhawks to two NCAA tournament appearances. She set records for career and single-season assists at SEMO, and is second all-time in game-winning goals. She was nominated for the 2008 NCAA Woman of the Year award by SEMO.
Schlaefer attended Triad High School and is a 2004 graduate. A four-year starter, she helped Triad make two appearances at the state finals and was named to the All-State team in 2003 and 2004. She also was selected as a St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar-Athlete in 2004.
Since joining SIUE's women's soccer program as a graduate assistant, Schlaefer has been involved in several areas of the program including all aspects of team training with emphasis on goalkeepers, recruiting, coordinating academic programs, organizing fundraising and community service projects, and serving as the co-director of the summer camps program.
Schlaefer holds a bachelor's of science in secondary education mathematics from Southeast Missouri State University. She recently completed her master's of business administration while working as the graduate assistant for the Cougars the past two seasons.
She is married to Scott Schlaefer. The couple resides in Collinsville.
